Trading through a Recession

If you are reading this and you are in your 20’s or even early 30’s, you haven’t really lived through a recession. Those were the days when Bank rates rose 4 times in one day and reached over 15% and unless you are in your 40’s or 50’s you won’t remember the 3-day week and the blackouts due to fuel shortages – oh glory days- !! well of course not, but if you have been there you will know it’s not nearly so bad now. That is not to say we should continue with our ostrich like tendencies because things are definitely tough and getting tougher that’s for sure.

I am privileged to work across a multiple of industries from construction to manufacturing and all kinds of service and retails trades. Not one of them remains untouched, though clearly some are faring better than others. But the truth is some of the business and their owners were not only better equipped for that down time but are reacting better and importantly swifter than others.
